Willis on top 5 and upcoming visits

About two weeks ago, ThaRinger.com interviewed Marcus Lattimore from Duncan,
South Carolina and Byrnes High School. This time around, TR caught up with his
highly touted teammate Brandon Willis. What schools does Willis like? Find out
that, and more, inside.
Willis dominated his opponents in his Junior season, racking up 27 tackles for
loss and 13 sacks, but he isn’t the only standout on his team’s defensive line.
He shares the line with teammate and current Florida State commitment Corey
Miller, and the two form a duo that is one of the most feared in the country.
“It’s really fun playing with those guys because it gives you a really good shot
to win because they’re great players.” Willis said of Lattimore and Miller.
Will Lattimore and Miller’s recruitment effect his?
“It’d be cool to play with them, but I have to make my own decision.” Willis
said.
Miller has offers from 28 of the top college programs in the country, but
recently trimmed his list of schools to five.
“My top five is Cal, Florida State, Tennessee, North Carolina, and UCLA.” Willis
offered. “They’re all pretty even right now I don’t really want to say anything
or name a favorite at this point.”
“I’ve seen all of my top 5 except for UCLA.” Willis said. "I liked all my
visits, Cal was a great experience we went out there and saw Berkeley and the
system and the Oakland area and California. That was probably my highlight of
the visits but I haven’t seen UCLA. I’ve been to Tennessee quite a few times and
been to Florida State and UNC quite a few times also.”
It’s no secret that Willis’ father is a Florida State fan, and instilled that on
Willis growing up, but he still maintains that he won’t that factor into his
recruitment.
“My favorite college team growing up was probably Florida State because my dad
was a big Florida State fan.” Willis said. “There’s no pressure there though, he
wants me to make my decision and he’ll support me wherever I’ll go.”
Willis plans to take all five of his allotted official visits, and has a good
idea of what he’s going to be looking for at each school.
“I definitely want to take an official visit to UCLA, Cal, Florida State and
Tennessee, probably all of my top five,” he said.
“I mean education, good coaching staff, great atmosphere and a school that I can
spend four years at and don’t want to go somewhere else, also a good family
environment is what I want. Distance won’t be a factor.”
When will Willis’ highly anticipated commitment come?
“Either mid-season or sometime before that I don’t know yet.” He described.
“Probably around week 6 of the season or maybe before then.”
Willis, who compares himself to Dwight Freeney of the Indianapolis Colts, would
prefer to play end in college, but wouldn’t be opposed to sliding inside to
tackle.
He comes in at #13 on the current TR Top 300 for 2010, and the #4 player in the
state of South Carolina.
