Garrison Smith, a heralded defensive line recruit from Atlanta, Georgia, is
pretty relaxed about the recruiting process right now, but hinted that he might
make some news soon. ThaRinger.com has the latest on Smith’s recruitment, game,
and more.
Smith plays several positions for his Douglass High School team, and was the
centerpiece of his team’s defensive line finishing the season with 27 tackles
for loss to go along with 14 sacks.
“We went 3-7 we had a tough year last season and a had a young team but we’re
coming back strong.” Smith said. “We’re doing pretty good and were just trying
to get some camaraderie and get everybody on the same page and be the best team
we can be.”
“I also play safety and fullback but I need to improve on everything, I just
want to be the best player I can be.”
Smith also says he idolizes NFL Hall of Famer, and Former University of
Tennessee, defensive linemen Reggie White.
“I look up to Reggie White, not only on the field but off the field and how he
lived his life.” Smith explained. “He played at Tennessee and you know there’s
great tradition and I just wanted to play up there and I always watched him and
Tennessee and he’s a great Christian.”
As far as recruiting goes, Smith had started to trim his list, but is adamant
that he doesn’t have any favorites.
“Yeah I made a list of 10 schools, but I’m wide open.” he said. “After the
season I’m going to focus on recruiting, but right now I’m just focusing on the
season. They’re all the same I’m just focusing on what I like and don’t like.”
As for visits, Smith said he’s holding off until after the season and is just
focusing on work, and the upcoming season.
“I’ve just been working, I had a job at six flags, so I couldn’t really visit
anywhere but right now I’m working and getting ready for the season.” Smith
said. "Maybe after the season (I’ll think about visits) but right now I’m not
really going anywhere.”
“Not yet, I know a couple things,” Smith said about his official visits. “But
I’m just going to handle that when the time comes. I have a couple schools that
I know I’m going to take them to and they know who they are.”
Smith also somewhat addressed the rumors that he might make his highly
anticipated commitment sooner rather than later.
“I don’t know, there’s no telling whether I’m going to commit on signing day or
whenever, I may commit tomorrow.” Smith said. “I don’t know maybe or maybe not,
but you just got to stay posted and just be reading a lot and be on the lookout.
There may be some news coming up soon.”
Smith discussed what coaching staff he has particularly bonded with, as well as
what factors will weigh heavy on his final decision.
“I’ve bonded with a bunch of coaches you know Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Florida
State, Vanderbilt and it’s going to be a real tough decision..” He said.
“My relationship with the coaches and how I like the team and the players and
program and academics are real important and football will take care of itself.”
Smith ranks as #76 in the Class of 2010, and #2 in the state of Georgia.
