(pronounced Kyrie) Fortt is one of the top linebackers for the Class of 2010,
even though he’s a little younger than your average high school Senior. Despite
his youth, Fortt is still wanted by many of the top programs in the country.
ThaRinger.com has the latest on his recruitment, game, and more.
Fortt, who currently weighs in at 227 pounds and is 6’2 ½, is one of the leaders
on his Stamford High School team, who finished with a 6-5 record last season.
“My high school team used me as a middle linebacker and I also played running
back.” Fortt said. “Right now, we’re getting everybody, especially the young
guys and underclassmen, in the gym and working out in the morning and I have to
be there early cause I’m a captain.”
“I’m really good at shedding of blocks and my lateral movements but I still have
to work on my form tackling.”
Fortt also has a number of peers that have committed to schools he himself is
considering, but remains adamant that they won’t affect his recruitment.
“While it’d be nice to go where some of my good friends go to but it’s not going
to make or break my decision cause I have to do what’s best for me.” Fortt
explained.
That decision will be a big one for Fortt, as he has a laundry list of schools
he is considering, and while he hasn’t trimmed that list yet, he hopes to do so
in the near future.
“I haven’t really started to trim down my list but I’m thinking about narrowing
down in the middle of the summer.” He said. “North Carolina and Penn State are
definitely going to make the cut and probably Georgia and USC will too.”
Fortt also recently visited Penn State, and described his experience there, as
well as what other visits distinguished themselves out in his mind and what
other schools may get a visit from this very heralded recruit.
“It (the PSU trip) was real nice, I went their with my dad and some people and I
got to see some of the players and be with the team and we got to do this thing
for some kids with kidney cancer and it was a real nice time,” Fortt described.
“Everybody was real laid back it was a good environment and place to be.”
“Another visit I really enjoyed was the North Carolina trip. I’m also probably
going to make it to Georgia sometime soon.”
Fortt has also been to a number of camps this summer, and has gone up against
some of the top recruits in the nation.
“Lache Seastrunk, who I went up against in a camp, was the best player I’ve been
up against.” Fortt offered. “He’s just real quick and it’s really hard to stay
with him in 1 on 1 drills.”
Fortt currently ranks as the #14 player in the Class of 2010.
