2009
NFL Draft Blog
2010 Big
Board
Second Day Blog
First Round Thoughts
-
Stafford to the Lions looks
official. I understand the move,
and I'm sure they think they can
get a good OT at #20. I still
would have taken one of Smith,
Monroe, or Curry if I were the Lions.
Rams on the Clock.
-
Speculation that the Chiefs and
Falcons are talking about a
Glenn Dorsey for picks trade. If
this happens and Pioli pulls
Atlanta's 1st and 3rd round
picks it's robbery by KC.
- Chris Berman is at the end of
his run. Where is Trey Wingo?
NFL Network it is.
- Baylor LT Jason Smith to the
Rams. I'm ok w/ this pick. I
think Monroe is less of a
gamble, but Smith definitely
fits the St. Louis offense. On a
side note, there is always a
player that gets more pub than
needed. This year that guy is
Mark Sanchez. Yes, he's a good
looking QB prospect, but there
are many questions(ability to
anticipate, willingness to throw
into NFL coverages, and arm
strength to get it there).
- If KC drafts Tyson Jackson
they have made a BIG mistake.
Who drafts a DE that can barely
rush the passer at #3. Aaron
Curry or B.J. Ragi(if Dorsey is
traded) is the pick here.
- KC drafts Tyson Jackson.
Horrible pick that will handicap
this franchise for a couple
years. How do you draft a run
stuffing DE at #3?
- Seattle on the clock. Ragi or
Curry has to be the pick.
- Great pick by Seattle. Aaron
Curry will be an All-Pro type LB
for 10 years.
- Good pick by the Jets. They
have Kellen Clemens as their
starter as it stands and Sanchez
is a NY kind of guy. Now, if the
Jets gave up their 1st round
pick in a deep QB 2010 draft
they are taking a huge gamble,
and if it doesn't work out could
haunt the franchise for a
decade.
- Good trade on both sides. Jets
save their 2010 #1. Abram Elam
is a nice pluck for the Browns
along w/ the '09 #2. The Browns
save money, stockpile picks, and
the Jets have someone to sell
those PSL's.
- Smith is a solid pick. The
Bengals need stability and Smith
will be a 10 year solid OL. One
of the safer picks in the draft.
Smith will likely be a RT or OG.
- Don't know why anyone is
shocked. The Raiders always go
w/ speed and Heyward-Bey has the
most upside of any WR in this
draft. That said, they could
have gotten him a little later
if they had a trade partner.
- Jacksonville has to go for
Monroe here.
- Solid pick. Very little risk.
- The Packers got an early
Christmas present, B.J. Ragi. If
they don't pick him they will
regret it for years.
- Excellent pick. Green Bay just
got a top 5 talent at #9. Tyson
Jackson is the pick I had for
Green Bay in the mock draft
because GB needs DL bad and
would reach for a slightly above
average 3-4 DE at this spot. To
get the best DT in the draft
here is a major coup.
- The 49ers need a WR w/ #1
potential and the consensus #1
WR in the draft is still there.
Should be an easy decision. Then
again the 49'ers chose Balmer
last year w/ Deshaun Jackson
there. Crabtree is the pick, has
to be.
- Solid pick. Not as sold on
Crabtree as most, but he fills a
major need and might be a
dynamic player. Too boot, you
only have to give him 15-17
million instead of the 20-35
that you normally have to pay
for a potentially dynamic WR in
the NFL draft.
- Orakpo, Oher, Pettigrew, and
Jerry would all make complete
sense here w/ the Bills.
- Aaron Maybin??? WOW!! BUST!
Horrible pick. He's a reach in
the 20's in my mind, much less
the #11 spot.
- You could have gone w/ two
better DE/OLB hybrids in Orakpo
or Brown. They could have even
reached for Oher and gotten a
DE/OLB prospect comparable w/
Maybin at #28. Horrible, just
horrible.
- Moreno would be a great pick
w/ the DE hybrid type player the
Broncos want still likely there
at #18.
- I love Moreno. He's a football
player. If he can stay healthy
you are looking at the Rookie Of
The Year. Plus, Torain will be
there to take some carries off
Knowshon.
- Good pick w/ Orakpo for the
Redskins. I personally think
Everette Brown is better, but
nice pick anyway.
- Beanie Wells is the pick here.
the Saints LOVE him.
- Guess the Saints thought they
couldn't get a good S/CB in
later rounds. Excellent pick
though. Jenkins is a sure thing.
- Now we should hear Beanie
Wells name here. The Texans
can't expect Slaton to tote the
rock 20 times a game. Maybe
Peria Jerry or Maualuga here
too.
- Ehhh. Very average pick.
Cushing, along w/ all of the USC
backers has major questions. I
don't like the pick when you
have sure things still on the
board.
- Good pick. English is a
perfect fit for that scheme.
Still like drafting sure things
as opposed to potential w/
questions.
- Browns probably have to go w/
Maclin or Jerry/Barwin/Brown/Delmas.
I like Jerry here. Move Shaun
Rogers to DE in that 3-4 and go
to work.
- The worst pick of the draft.
Just horrible. Josh Freeman AND
you moved up to get him? Good
luck w/ that. Huge bust factor.
What else would you expect from
a franchise that traded a 2 and
a 5 for an oft-injured Kellen
Winslow and then give him 30
million guaranteed.
- Like the pick of a DE, just
not the right one. Ayers has
questions w/ his on field play.
Had a great Senior Bowl, but w/o
that he's a late 2nd/early 3rd.
- Steve Young is horrible. If
you're ESPN w/ all that money;
you can't find a former NFL
scout or former NFL director of
player personnel to join the
team?
- Maclin falls into the Eagles
lap. Decent
pick. He's somewhat
overrated from going up against
Big 12 defenses, but he's a
playmaker. The only thing I
don't like is that Maclin kind
of mirrors Deshaun Jackson. With
the departure of Buckhalter I
would have liked to see Wells go
there to help carry the load.
Even Nicks would have been
better.
- Could the Lions go w/
Pettigrew or Harvin/Nicks? I
think Micheal Oher or Peria
Jerry is the pick. Maybe Rey
Maualuga seeing as how Detroit
could probably get a good OT at
#33.
- I like the pick. A safe haven
for Stafford and a great blocker
at TE. Also, could get a guy like
William Beatty at #33.
- I think the Browns go for
either Everette Brown, Clay
Matthews, or Connor Barwin here.
- WOW!! Nice player, but he
could have been had in the 2nd
round. Not to mention w/ Wood,
Unger, and Caldwell there the
Center spot is loaded.
- Good pick for the Vikings.
Percy Harvin for all his
troubles is actually an
underrated player IF HEALTHY.
Big question w/ the durability,
but is very strong for his size
and can make anybody look slow.
I like the pick. Can give them a
nice redzone package.
- Good pick. I thought Hakeem
Nicks was a better fit, but Oher
is good value here.
- Weird draft thus far with so
many differing opinions on every
player. A lot of solid players
in this draft, but not many sure
things. I think there are still
some sure things still on the
board though(Wells, Alphonso
Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Connor
Barwin, and Peria Jerry).
- EXCELLENT pick by the Falcons.
With Jerry to add to the
acquisition of Tony Gonzalez so
far......
Demitrov is one of the best GM's
already. GREAT player here.
Amazing explosiveness and will
split the gap w/ regularity.
- BIG risk here w/ Davis for the
Dolphins. Classic boom or bust.
Surprised Parcells would take
this chance.
- Bad trade...Bad pick. Still
trying to figure out why
Matthews has risen so much.
Pretty much a special teams guy.
- Colts should go w/ either
Alphonso Smith or Hakeem Nicks.
- Whoa! Colts had Brown ahead of
Wells??? OK.
- William Beatty to Buffalo?
You'd think they have to go with
a OT here.
- Decent pick. Kind of a reach.
They must like a Phil Loadholt,
Eben Britton, or Jamon Meredith
later.
- Giants have to take Hakeem
Nicks here.
- Great pick. Very little bust
factor. Big WR to take over for
Burress.
- Titans need to go w/ Barwin,
Brown, or Evander "Ziggy" Hood.
- Excellent pick. Britt is the
best 3rd down receiver in this
draft outside of Nicks. Exactly
what Tennessee needs. Think a
poor mans Terrell Owens.
- Beanie Wells is a great pick
here for the Cards. Especially
w/ a JJ Arrington to play on 3rd
downs. A special player if
healthy.
- Great fit for the Cardinals.
Couldn't have asked for much
better other than Moreno falling
to #31.
- I really like Connor Barwin
here. Would be a perfect fit for
Dick LeBeau's defense.
- Ehhh. Decent pick. Hood is a
nice player to have in the DL
rotation. Not much more than
that. Surprised if he ever goes
to a pro bowl.
Second Round
Thoughts
- William Beatty or Eben Britton
are there for the taking. Lions
should pick one of the two.
Unless they have a high grade on
Maualuga or Brown.
- GREAT pick. Absolutely love
Delmas. Just not sure that's a
great need here.
- Chung is a good pick here.
I would just think a
comparable Reshad Johnson
and maybe even Chung himself
would be there when the Pats
draft again.
- Alphonso Smith, Everette
Brown, Connor Barwin, Shawn
Nelson, Rey Maualuga, and
William Beatty are great
picks at this juncture.
- I'm not a big fan of
Lauranitis. I'll be
surprised if he ends up
anything more than what
Bobby Carpenter is. With a
Maualuga there to anchor
your defense or an immense
talent in Barwin this is a
head scratcher.
- Nice pick in Robiskie.
Great route runner who is
sharp in and out of breaks.
With the players I've
mentioned still on the board
however, I think the Browns
could've done better here.
- I know teams are scared of
Alphonso Smith's height, but
so were major BCS schools
and look how foolish he made
them look.
- I LOVE Smith. He's the
most instinctive corner in
the draft and will make
plays. Great pick for the
Broncos, although not a fan
of giving up the #1 pick
next year.
- Nice pick for the Bengals
w/ Maualuga. He definitely
has questions, but is a
great value at this
juncture.
- Don't like the Britton
pick w/ Beatty still on the
board. Heck, even Loadholt
fits better. Britton has a
very high bust factor.
- Raiders pick either Beatty
or Barwin here.
- Pats trade up for the
Raiders selection. Barwin or
Brown is the pick. Gotta be.
- Excellent pick. Ron Brace
is the best run stuffer in
the draft. Perfect NG for
their 3-4.
- The Patriots are just
amazing. They trade down
multiple times and still get
the best run stuffer, the
2nd best S prospect, and the
2nd best pure corner in the
draft. Butler is another
great pick.
- Buffalo's selection of
Jarius Byrd is kind of
suspect. More of a late
2nd/early 3rd round grade.
- Carolina just stole
Everette Brown. Good
athleticism w/ great
character and motor.
- Interesting pick w/ ATH
Pat White. Not sure you can
justify spending a 2nd
rounder on him. Very
surprised that Barwin has
fallen this far.
- Nice pick for the Giants
in Sintim. He's an
underrated LB w/ a nose for
the ball.
- Texans just hit a home
run. Connor Barwin has the
ability to be a special
player. Even if he doesn't
pan out at OLB or DE he'll
be a better special teams
player than a Clay Matthews
who went 20 picks sooner.
- Oakland w/ another reach.
Miller is #173 on my overall
list and they take him in
the mid 2nd round......
- Mcbath over Reshad
Johnson? I just don't
understand how some of these
teams justify their picks.
- The Seahawks continue a
great draft w/ C Max Unger.
The Seahawks have added TR's
#1 rated player Aaron Curry,
a very nice center in Unger,
and a 2010 1st rounder.
- Browns select Mohammed
Massaquoi out of Georgia. I
think it's an ok pick. I
think TE Shawn Nelson could
help more in the pass game
though.
- TE Shawn Nelson, OT
William Beatty, DL Jarron
Gilbert, DB Sean Smith, RB
Lesean McCoy, and CB Mike
Mickens are all great
options at this point.
- Solid pick by Buffalo w/
OG Andy Levitre. A masher in
the interior w/ versatility.
- DE David Veikune to
Cleveland. Decent pick. I
like Cody Brown and Michael
Johnson better though.
- Excellent pick for the
Eagles. LeSean McCoy has the
ability to take 5-7 carries
off Brian Westbrook's plate
next year. Fumbling is the
only problem here.
- Two players that I really
like other than the best
available I've mentioned are
TE Cornelius Ingram, who is
coming off an injury. When
healthy Ingram is a 2nd
round talent. The other is
RB Andre Brown from NC
State. Brown, a highly
recruited RB coming into
college, has all the skills.
Durability, a suspect OC and
OL for most of his career,
and his work ethic have
dropped him.
- Loadholt is boom or bust
at it's finest.
- William Moore is a good
pick at this juncture.
- Moala is a decent pick.
Big body. Could have been a
1st rounder if he had a
better work ethic. If
someone can motivate him(BIG
IF) he's a great pick.
- Excellent pick by the
Ravens. Kruger is a DE that
brings his hard hat and will
be a solid pro. No doubts w/
Kruger.
- Interesting reach by the
Patriots. Vollmer is my #166
rated player.
- Troy CB Sherrod Martin to
Carolina. Pretty much a
nickel CB or special teams
maven.
- Great value for the Giants
w/ Beatty. Had an amazing
Senior year. Is he a one
year wonder?
- Great pick for Miami in
the versatile Sean Smith.
- Sen'derrick Marks can be a
1st round talent if he's
motivated. Worth the risk at
this point.
- Quinn is a horrible pick.
You have Ingram, Coffman,
and Nelson sitting there and
you choose Quinn? Just
horrible.
- Great pick w/ the tweener
Cody Brown. Arizona is doing
well so far.
